A route that aims to show, side by side, the ancient and Renaissance souls of Rome, with the superb works of Michelangelo embedded in the vestiges of a glorious antiquity.
St. Peter in Vincoli and the Moses
We will start from the ancient Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli, dating back to the 5th century AD, which houses one of the most beautiful sculptures ever made: Michelangelo’s Moses, an admirable example of the Florentine master’s skill in marble work, so expressive and realistic as to be defined by Vasari more “a work of the brush than of the chisel”.
From the Colosseum to the Imperial Fora
We will continue to the undisputed symbol of Rome, the Colosseum, we will enjoy its façade and all the secrets of its construction a until we reach the “squares” of the Imperial Forums, with their majestic remains including the famous Trajan Column, an incredible example of celebratory art with its 200 metres of spiral reliefs up to the top.
Capitol Piazza
We end at the enchanting “Piazza del Campidoglio”, designed by Michelangelo, who here demonstrates his great talent as an architect by creating a space where balance, elegance and a precise reference to the classical world reign supreme. Don’t miss the romantic view of the beating heart of ancient Rome: the Roman Forum.
